Offshore windfarm VR inspection training: Currently the only way to train inspectors the correct procedure to transfer off a moving boat onto the turbine base is either with costly motion platform simulators, which are few and far between or by doing it in the real world in situ, which is high risk and potentially very dangerous.
This virtual reality (VR) training prototype showcases the design factored in roomscale VR requirements to provide accuracy of space limitations for real world operations and the muscle-memory motions required for the process of transfer and within the turbine for inspection duties.
Based upon previous experiences created requiring virtual climbing, the additional challenge was effectively conveying climbing and speed combined with timing of the transfer off the moving boat onto the turbine base and ladder. Credit: Make Real Music: bensound.com
